So how significant is the loss of sharpness that some have seen with NR on? As I am not using the High-end lenses, (28-70/4, F70-210, Kiron 105mm/2.8Macro, DA 18-55), would any improvement in sharpness I would see by turning off NR, be swamped by the relative loss of sharpness due to lenses, or other issues?
The only way to know for sure would be to do some testing. I haven't done any in-depth testing to estimate the percentage degradation, if there is any. My reason for turning NR off in the first place was that the doubling of exposure time on 1/25 second or longer exposures, the few that I make, was throwing off my timing for hand- held shots. Then I heard that someone's research and testing showed some loss of sharpness at shorter exposure times.
I do turn it on for longer exposures, when tripod mounted, and don't worry too much about it. :-)
