Frankly, it would be great to learn about the features these new cameras
have, but, in all honesty, their usefulness is sometimes elusive. However,
there's probably some feature or two that can be helpful at times.

Elusive until you find yourself in a situation where you find a use for them
I find myself either in full manual either in the studio or when shooting scenics (including manual focus, the focus point never seems to be where I want it) or full program if I am snap shoting. I suspect this has as much to do with my inexperience with feature laden cameras as anything else, I forget whats available to me. Last weekend, for example, I was shooting the dawgs in programmed automatic, had I been thinking, I would have used shutter preferred automatic.

Umm, what's Image Review - the screen on the back where you see what you
shot? Why turn it off? To further the manual film camera experience, or
does turning it off do something else, perhaps wrt how quickly the camera
will react or process pics?

Turning it off puts the pleasure of surprise and wonder back into the picture taking experience. A side benefit is longer battery life.
