As I said it depends on the size. A couple of years ago I could have told given you a fairly good rundown now... WD had a reputation of being better than Maxtor a few years ago. I've had 3 Maxtor drives fail, (a couple of 8.5s and the 85gig that they eventually sent me to replace the first 8.5) and a lovely 7.5gig paperweight from Samsung that's identical to my 7.5 gig drive from IBM except for ID stickers and that fact that the IBM one works and all. You can believe me or not I no skin off my nose.

It really doesn't matter, no manufacturer makes all of their drives, they are a commodity item. To fill their lines manufactures just buy the size's they don't make from someone else and slap their label on them.


Well, then, whoever is making WD drives isn't doing as good as whoever is making Maxtor, SeaGate or Fujitsu. I agree it doesn't matter who is making them, but it doesn't alter the fact that my comuter builders won't use them, or that this is not the first time I have heard complaints of WD problems.
