There's a downside to any storage system if it's not backed up
somewhere else. Store the files on a good firewire drive and back them
up to DVD or CD. DVDs hold six times more data than CDs, so they're a
lot more convenient. Any hard drive can fail, which means you lose
everything if it's not backed up. The chances of all of your DVDs or
CDs being wiped out are somewhere between zero and none.

The puny 160gb hard drive that is used for storing and editing photos

USB
or Firewire external drive for storage. Cost aside, would this be a
better/safer way of storing the data than CDs or DVDs? Transferring
the
files would certainly be faster and easier, would it not? Is there a
downside to using such an archiving/storage system?
