No, the resolution isn't high enough at 6MP to really show weaknesses in a lens design. 6MP resolves similarly to slide film, and probably a little less (8MP is a hint more, but really it's a wash). You nead to get past 10MP before the resolution becomes lens-limited with good glass on an APS sensor body, and it isn't until you hit full-frame sensors at 12+MP that the sensor becomes utterly ruthless at showing lens weaknesses (As 1Ds mkII users have found out with Canon wide-angle lenses)

In fact, with a 6MP sensor, a lot of cheaper glass will perform a lot better, because the soft edges are cropped out by the sensor size. My old Formula 5 28mm is a much better performer on digital than on film.

So now I will ask a question, is the resolution of the istD series cameras high enough to tell the difference between an excellent and a slightly better truly exception lens In the APS region it
covers? Or does at some point the resolution become "camera limited"
and two lenses both outstanding but slightly different
performance become "one" and these differences are not
resolved at all as they clearly would be on film grained BW film?
