Right. Canon developed their AF for the old FD system. There was no space for a drivuing shaft on this mount so Canon development work took a different direction from the competition. So the fact that Canon had a horrid lens mount actually worked for the good for the company forcing them to choose different technical solutions and eventually ditch the lensmount alltogether...
