The only experience I have with other brands AF is when examining them in the store. Back when I bought the PZ-1p in 97, I could not discern a difference in AF Speed between it and any other camera I was interested in, mainly the N90.

I think often the comparisons and judgements are a splitting of hairs, as opposed to a real-world every day, recognizable difference.

Anyway, all this AF speed is mostly bullshit. According to Andy Rouse in his "Life in the wild" book, the AF system on the Pentax 645NII, BTW mediocre by Pentax standards, is giving as many keepers as the Canon EOS-1v with "L" lenses. I've been positively underwhelmed by the same cameras AF performance when trying it with the Canon 35-350 L lens.
