Yeah.  I have typically used Lithium batteries in my *ist D and my DS. 
As a matter of fact, I mostly use Li CRV3's.  I know this is expensive,
but the times I've used rechargeable batteries in digital SLRs
(including my E-10)  the cameras all developed erratic behavior at some
point.  I think these things are really sensitive to power supplies, and
don't' simply shut down when power is low.

Before you send it off, humour yourself by feeding it a new set of
lithiums 
and a new memory card.
Are you using the external battery pack?
I've given up on NiMh batteries. I have found the camera's performance
to be 
somewhat erratic when using them.
