I was making that statement in a far less literal sense than I may have 
wrote it.  Obviously they don't believe they are a supernatural deity.  I 
meant that from one POV, they can be seen as inadvertently making themselves 
a god, in the sense that they feel there is not a higher power they must 
answer to other than themselves (except possibly whatever the taxing 
authority in their local happens to be).

I'm not speaking for them, nor am I attempting to make a blanket statement.  
I'm simply saying it can be perceived as such.
