Whoa. Let's not let this go by. Really?

This would be amazing.

I just sent my "loaner" LX back to my friend Bob Meier. I've been using and
testing numerous cameras for many years now, but had somehow always missed
trying an LX. As most of you knew years before I did, it's a truly seriously
wonderful piece of gear. I liked virtually everything about it--except one
thing. I'll get to that.

I have to say that the LX with the Grip B and a nice M lens attached amounts
to the most comfortable-to-hold 35mm camera that I've ever had in my hands.
Bar none. It's just the tops.

Second best feature is the marvelous finder optics. Viewfinders are a _bte
noire_ of mine--I almost cannot be pleased with them. The LX has optically
the best manual-focus viewfinder I've ever used on an SLR. Leica can only
dream of finder optics this good--not until the R8 has it built anything
that comes close.

Build quality, size, and weight are all outstanding, with the _possible_
exception that it might be a wee bit taller. I loved the "multi-purpose
lever" (is that what they call it?) I even liked the feel and the throw of
the winding lever. This camera shows such exquisite judgement--everything is
balanced, synergistic, apt. Superb.

I could go on and on here, except that I don't NEED to. You all know the LX
better than I do. You could tell _me_ what I liked about it.

The ONE thing I disliked about it is that it's very loud. This is another
pet peeve of mine--I don't like to "shout" when I shoot, I guess because I'm
shy. I don't like a shutter that will wake sleeping babies. This may be a
peculiarity of mine, I grant you--I know that when the F4 came out, some
fashion photographers were miffed because it was too quiet--models would
take the shutter sound as a cue to take a new pose, and they couldn't get
into a rhythm if they couldn't hear the shutter. But this and this alone is
what would keep me away from an LX. And this is really just a matter of
taste.

Can you just imagine what Pentax could do today if they were going, as Pl
says, "to make a camera the owners would want to take with them to their
graves"?

It's almost too much to contemplate.

The only problem they might have would be staying close enough to the
"spirit" of the original LX. It was so good as it was....

This bears watching. Closely.

This makes my day. Thanks, Pl!
