There's much ado about lenses..... even entire websites dedicated to
comparing the quality of lenses just within the Pentax family.
My question is.....
How's the list rate my Cosmicar A-70~200 1:4 Macro???
It was just the other day (after 14 yrs) that I learned Cosmicar & Pentax
are related somehow. Is this lens made up of the stuff that couldn't pass
inspection & get a Pentax label or what?
How's the list rate my Vivitar A-28~105 1:3.5~4.5 Macro???
Way back when, (from what I was told) there was only a few folks making
lenses that could end up with ANY name on em. Now (& this lens is NEW)
.... (so I'm told again), everyone (sorta) makes their own lens'... except
Vivitar, who is a Distributor. So there's no telling who made the glass
for this thing (some kid in his garage with a polishing kit).<g>
BTW... I didn't get the SERIES-1 cuz the the yo-yo behind the counter was
showing me one that sounded like the zoom (gearing?) had a missing cog. It
wasn't smooth OR quiet... not the way a $400 lens *should* be quiet &
smooth.
Flame on.....
I like em. They've served well & I'm certainly not gonna trash em based on
the list's opinion.
I'm just curious.
And while I'm here......
What about the 500mm f8 mirror telephotos?? f-stop too high to do anything
with? If you did bump your head & get one, WHICH one would you get? (No
winning LOTTO ticket).
E-Bay (which everyone seems to like) has Kalimar 500mm's for less than
$200... a silly price (IMO) considering you can pay $300 for a 28mm.
Or am I mixing apples & oranges?
