So after a bad experience at the Used department at B&H,
I headed down to Adorama, where a very nice guy sold me
a new Tokina 28mm f2.8. It has an autofocus mode. I've
never used an AF lens before, since my K1000 doesn't
need it. That said, I had a heck of a time getting
the aperture ring to work properly. For some reason,
it kept going into Autofocus mode. I had thought that
the K1000 would ignore any functions it didn't support.

At first it seemed as though I should set the lens to f22
or f2.8 before I attached it to the body, but then that
stopped working. Once it's on, even if it seems to be
working ok at first, if I turn it too much past the 2.8 I hear
a snap, and the metering stops working. I was wondering
if maybe I can't use the lens when it's fully tightened
on the body.

When I looked I couldn't even find any lenses, new or used,
that don't have the auto mode, so I really hope there's a
workaround for this...

Thanks in advance,
Amita
