Amen to that. I've been experimenting with new inks (MIS Quadtone) and new
papers (Pictorico, Somerset Enhanced, & I finally got my hands on Epson
PGPP). The results have been excellent compared to what I used to get. Thus
far, my results with digital B&W printing have shown the scanning stage to
be the weakness. Color scans converted to grayscale look pretty darn good,
not quite as good a well done fiber base print. There's a warm tone to the
prints which I hear there's a fix for. Then again, I'm at the beginning of
the learning curve. BUT, it's so much more convenient than conventional
printing.
Thus far, color prints look pretty excellent but I know I'm losing some
quality at the scanning stage. This is likely due to my scanner. But, I'd
just as soon like to skip the scanning stage. I don't shoot in low light
(and can keep a film camera in case I choose to) so once the price is right,
I'm taking the plunge as well...
