Marnie -

Yeah - it's easy to recommend an expensive solution. But the key is
to have at least two copies. If the two copies can be different types
of media all the better.

In it's simplest form, it can be a working copy on your hard drive
with one or two sets of DVD's as backup. One can be kept close at
hand for easy access, the other copy can be somewhere off site.

Didn't you get a Smugmug account a while back? Your annual fee gives
you unlimited storage. You could upload copies of all your jpgs as
one form of backup. You can leave them private if you don't want
anyone browsing through them. At about $30/year that's pretty cheap
backup.

Lots of their customers use them for that purpose. They don't mind.
I was astounded when I saw a conversation between one of there
employees and a prospective customer that was wondering if he could
upload several hundred thousand photos. They just asked that he stay
in communications on the timing so they could make sure they provided
him a good level of service.

See you later, gs
