Yes, it could. My Metz motorzoom flash allows you to do that, for
instance. It's a bit inconvenient (read: almost unworkable) with zooms, of
course. The system would still miss focussing distance, but knowing focal
length would help (if _I_ followed all this ;-).
The question is: why should Pentax do it: they've been making lenses that
supply focal length and focussing distance to the body for almost twenty
years now. I've seen F lenses described as 'vintage' on ebay...
On the other hand: it would be great for Frank: misdialing the focal
length would create a whole new type of blurry pictures :o)
