I can't answer for Jack. For me it's not necessarially a 10 MP cutoff. And
being that this is a hobby for the most part, for most of us, what
justification does it need? :-)
In reality I'd like to see a 12MP body. An 8MP means they'll roughly match
Canon's bottom of the line. A 12MP+ means they'll roughly match Canon's
middle of the line. A 10MP body means they're still not up to Canon's
middle of the line.
We do hobbies because we like to and we spend money on that hobby with no
justification other than the delusion that we'll be more than momentarially
happy. :-)
When I originally bought Pentax it's because that's what was in the used
case that I could afford. When I bought Pentax AF it was because it's what
I could afford. When I bought Pentax digital, it was just because I could
use my existing lenses.
Now that I can afford more (or am inclined to spend more), I am more
interested in purchasing exactly what I want. It could be nothing more than
a vicious cycle, but that's the way it is with passionate pursuits.

I guess my question wasn't stated clearly.
Lets try this again.
...if we don't see at least a 10MP soon,
this rat may well abandon the swamping dingy
What about the lack of a 10MP camera body would cause you the abondon
Pentax?
Is it just the file size?
Do you need larger files for your images?
I know people on this list want specific features, but my question relates
to a 10MP body only.
(inquiring minds are still wanting to know)

And the single most important reason for abandoning the swamping dingy
would be????

Lens investments. Minor issue for me when I jumped (Since I kept my
pentax film gear and all but my two AF lenses).

Future lens purchases is my concern. Do I need anything, no. Do I want
it, yes. If I were to sink X$ into more equipment, I'd prefer to know I
was... well we've been through this all before. :-)
