I checked the dimensions and it seems that the MX and some other M-series bodies are smaller than the *ist. The biggest issue is the depth of the camera bodies as far as being able to slip them into a pocket. I've been able to slide the MX into a large shirt pocket. Can't do that with the *ist because it's thicker. The *ist is quite a bit lighter, however.
