That's 'Nenad' not 'Nedad' - but thanks Paul. I have done a bit of
travelling using various
Pentax cameras and found them excellent but for a lack of weathersealing
(Never owned an LX).
One situation where a few seals would have been good was some years ago in
Nepal. During a quiet stretch on a whitewater rafting trip I took out my
Programme Plus to take a picture just as another raft full of tourists
pulled along side us and started a water fight. My camera took a direct hit
with a bucket of water before I could return it to the waterproof barrel.
Later I found it was dead but after removing the film and drying it out in
the sun it came to life again and worked for the rest of the trip (however
it has had to be repaired a few times since then and I suspect it was the
long-term effects of that Nepali river water).
It's manual rewind also saved my slides unlike a not so fortunate group
member with a Z70 that suffered the same problem. Also the Programme Plus's
rugged metal casing saved it from being broken later on that trip when some
fat-arse used the bag containing it as a cushion during a long bumpy bus
trip (lucky it wasn't the aforementioned Z70).
More recently I was using an SFXn on a mountaineering trip. We camped in a
shallow cave protected from the elements (or so I thought). I left my
camera on a rock shelf next to my sleeping bag and awoke to find the cloud
had rolled in and every thing was soaked as if it had rained. The camera
worked erratically for a few hours but was fine after it dried out.
Based on these experiences it was a hard decision when I had a choice of
buying an LX or a Z1 at the same price (secondhand). The Z1 won (that's a
pun!) and I'm very happy with it but I sure wish it was weathersealed (and
that it had a metal case).
