Send it back. You must have gotten a bad one. Mine is as tight as my A
and K primes at the 45mm position. Even extended to the full wide
position, it has less slop than any of the zooms I've owned or tested
that have similar extended length.

Interesting, compared to all my other lenses my recently acquired DA
16-45
feels like utter crap, I couldn't imagine a lens feeling less
vulnerable and
loose. The fact that the frame bounces around as any control is
adjusted due to
the obvious barrel slop is disconcerting to say the least. Experience
is
relative.
