I'm not in a position to compare. The 1.4-XL is a Pentax converter. It
supports A setting but has no AF capability. My understanding is the 1.4-XL
produces higher quality images than the 1.7 AF. Keep in mind that the
1.4-XL has a long snout and can only be used with certain lenses (include FA
*200 f:2.8).
