Gerald,

Congratulations on your new lens! It is certainly one of my favorites and
goes with me everywhere. The compact size and excellent handling make well
worth the added bulk. I routinely use my in manual focus mode (very nice
feel - the best of my FA *'s) with the PZ-1p and have not trouble at all
with the matte screen. But that could be a preference on my part. On all
my previous cameras that could change the focus screen, I have opted for a
plain matte.

I have the Tamron 2X AF converter and find it to slightly drop the contrast
when used with this lens. The 1.4XL does not. I wish I could get an AF
version from Pentax, but still find that the DOF is so narrow at 300mm that
focusing on the matte is pretty easy. You should try it and see. Much
different than focusing a normal to wide angle lens.

Good luck!
