I have the FA* 200/2.8, its an awesome lense. I have used mine with a Tamron
& element teleconverter with pretty good results. I have a just received a
Tamron MC7 AF teleconvertor, but havent had a chance to burn any film with
it. Although i have had a play with it outside and the AF is still nice and
snappy.
You'll be happy with this lense, i also was after a 300, but bought this
instead as i felt it would be more versatile, soon i'm going to get a 1.4x
or the Pentax 1.7af.
