While I'm glad that Pentax is finally producing a vertical grip, this one is
missing the shutter/aperture control dial. As some who takes a great many
verticals, this is a huge omission. I do love, however, the way it locks to
the body.

My reaction is mixed. I found that the vertical grip made horizontal
handling much better. Unlike Mark C. (who's MZ-S I got to handle), I didn't
find that my pinky was hitting the shutter release. But the grip really
didn't fit my hand vertically. Overall, I found the grip to be pretty small.
While it certainly makes the MZ-S bigger, it brings it up to the size of
most of the competitor's cameras. Perhaps in keeping with the design
philosophy, the made it a touch too small.
