All reports indicate that the lens should be a pretty good performer,
but there are, of course, sample variations to consider as well as
damage or poor repairs, or there could be a misalignment of the mount
when, which would give you poor results.

As for the plastic - well, I'm not a big fan of Pentax A-series
lenses.  They seem to be much more poorly made than their earlier
counterparts, and of all the lenses I've owned, only the A-series has
given me problems.

Returning it is an excellent idea.  Don't waste your time with it.
