I've had two A 50/1.7s and both have developed the same problem: the
aperture ring works happily from 1.7 to 8 and the half-stop beyond, but
refuses to go any further. One took 16 years to fail, the other arrived
that way from a dealer. Optically, I think it's excellent, but would I
do better to look for an A 50/1.4 (if I can find one - not easy) as a
long-term replacement?
Or would an M lens be better still? I seldom use the A setting anyway,
and can live with CW and spot metering on the -5n.
Anyone had this happen to an F or FA lens?
