I have a USB optical mouse permanently in my bag for that reason. Rarely 
do I work where I can't use the mouse. Although I get by with the 
trackpoint in a pinch. I loathe and despise trackpads, although my next 
machine will have one. I imagine it will see as much use as the 
no-button mouse that came with my eMac, IE almost none.
