Yes.

I use the Sony R1 is my waist level camera now with its large, top- 
mounted LCD. A waist level finder on 16x24mm format would be  
difficult to see with, it was bad enough with 35mm film SLRs.

I used to use the WL and 4x Magnifying finders with my Nikon F2 and F3.

And of course I used the WL finders with the Rolleiflex TLRs and  
Hasselblad 500C/M. Nice big focusing screens.
