We pretty much thought they were crap back then, not like they made them 
in the '30's. Well guess what? A car from the 30's did good to get 40K 
miles, a car from the 50's did good to get 100K miles, and a car today 
does good to get 250K miles. And the current ones are many times as 
complicated as well (which, of course, means you can not easily rebuild 
them in the driveway). BTW, my first car, a 52 ford convertible, got 
better gas milage then my current one.
