I used to think the same thing - then I tried the tap water in Los
Angeles - changed my mind.

We were visiting my wife's cousin who lived right near Disneyland.
They asked if we would like anything to drink.  I replied that water
would be fine.  They kind of looked at each other and then brought out
a glass of water.  I realize that the water is heavily treated and is
safe to drink, but...what a horrible taste.  We went out that night
and bought some bottled water at a nearby convenience store.
