The DA 50-200 is an excellent consumer zoom. It performs far better
than its price or even its build quality might suggest. I've said
that here many times. I've used it for magazine event shoots and
numerous other jobs, and it has always come through for me. A few
examples follow.

BTW, the DA 12-24 does not extend at either the wide end of the range
or the long end. It is apparently of a completely different design
than either of the lenses that Shel mentions. In build quality, it is
notably superior to both.
