I have bought a couple of small image circle lenses because that is what is available from Pentax in wide angles now. Don't worry overmuch about the 70-210 not transmitting focal length data. My rather crude testing with a K100 and a 600mm lens indicates that shake reduction will work whether or not the camera knows which lens is mounted, and one can input focal length manually if you need to.
