Well, you are in a very very small minority
if you dont care about TV/HomeTheater picture quality.
"TV" Picture quality has been an issue for most people
since the dawn of TV. Have you always bought a set
and not cared at all about the PQ? If so, you must have
bought the cheapest possible set in the store every
single time you bought a tv in your entire life. That is
not what most people have done. Most people ARE
concerned about the picture quality of what they buy
and what they watch. I recommend HDTV by now and even if
your old set still works fine if its a 4x3, because
nearly all 4x3 sets are missing key performance features unrelated
to 4x3 due to the vintage.

No, it is true.  I couldn“t care less about TV quality, but I love a  
good print. So much in fact that I still make fiber based and  
selenium toned BW prints  from 6x6 negatives myself. Accept the  
difference.
