Congratulations on your good buy. The D is still an excellent camera.  
I still use mine quite a bit even though I have a K10. To use older  
lenses, set the exposure mode of the *istD to "M." Select your  
aperture on the K or M lens, then press the green button on the  
camera. Your D will set the shutter speed.
