You are in error.  Bob didn't say "our country." He said "my  
country." Yes, the US national identity is heavy with jingoism. But  
it's worked for us. This only came up because some questioned Shel's  
motivation in shooting the fence. I know for certain that Shel  
tripped the shutter only because he thought it was an interesting  
image. But the subject of flag veneration and mythology followed  
naturally. It is part of the national psyche for better or worse. It  
is not offensive. It just is what it is.
