This assumption is like assuming that gay people feel deeper because gay
bars (according to clichés) are louder. 

Let me put it this way. I have a very close and personal relationship with
Tiny Tim. But I don't make poster of him ;-)

This struck another key in me. Could it also be because US basically is a
multiethnic society? I wonder if we have a less diverged culture in Norway.
