Last year in italy I was served a hot chocolate that was so thick it
was like trying to drink a piping hot chocolate mousse. Small biscotti
would stand up in it. Not usually my cup of tea (or chocolate) but I
had absolutely no complaints. Very fun drink. But it did start with
choosing your packet of hot chocolate mix (made in Switzerland) from
the stand. And I didn't know enough italian to ask about the rest of
it.

Along the lines of mix, my sister's swiss friend swears by Caotina. I
like it very much as well, although I wish she had brought me the dark
chocolate mix rather than the milk chocolate one. I have a
(boiling)hot water tap so all I do is use 2/3 cup of hot water, 2 T
mix, and 1/3 cup half and half. There is no faster way to get it into
my stomach.

My husband just uses Scharffen Berger cocoa powder as a base, which we
have to order from the factory in SF since the little 6 oz tins are
not price efficient.
