When he prints, the main printer dialog window that should open will
specify either B and W or color. If he checks color but it doesn't print
in color, by all mean re-install the printer drivers from CD. Dialog
windows take you through this. Manually, they are kept in the Extensions
folder in the System Folder. Use the 'Extensions Manager' Control Panel
(usually accessed from the Apple Menu) to turn extensions on or off.
Sometimes a conflict of extensions can cause this. Turn off unneccessary
extensions. For instance, I use the Epson Print Monitor when I print, so
have no need for the other Print Monitor extensions, so they're all
switched off.
Mac mice are generally supplied as one-button. This is to keep things as
simple as possible. Use the left hand to Ctl / Opt (Alt) / Command /
click. Two and three and four and five - button mice can be had, all
fully customizeable.
The reason you found it overwhelming after a PC is because it's much
simpler than that - you were looking too hard! Also, the 'Help Center'
menu (under 'Help' along the top bar) is comprehensive, and should always
be used as a first port of call. It really works well.
Macs and PCs are really the same thing, it's just that they do these same
things in a slightly different way. At the end of the day, it's still a
box with a keyboard, and a bunch of Is and Os, electrical impulses that
are either on or off. Apple's offering really doesn't bequeath us any
more or less than a Windows offering, except that a manufacturer that
supplies the hardware and the software together is bound to get it right
more often than not. Most computer error is downright user error - people
don't pay enough attention to proper care of their software, and when it
all goes wrong they blame the box. I reckon you get as much of things as
you put in...
Cheers!
