Wrong question.
I'ts not the photograph that requieres a title.
It's the author, the spectators, the gallery, the editor etc. that may
require that a certain photograph is equipped with a title.
The author:
The author may of course decide to equip his or her photograph with a title.
For any number of reasons. That's fine with me.
However, if the photograph is not really good or interesting it may seem a
little pretensious, that it was given a title. Sometimes the title says more
about the artist or photographer than about the photograph it self :-)
Most of the time a photograph doesn't really get any better because of the
title. But sometimes it does - the title may help us to understand or
appreciate the photograph.

The rest:
Personally i find it somewhat helpful if a photograph is given a title. This
mean it's easier to find it, to talk or write about it, to discuss, to
download and frame it, to order a copy etc. I recently bougt a copy of
"American Girl in Italy" by Ruth Orkin. How would I have done this, had it
not been equiped with a title?

Hi!

My recent question to Tom C and his response provoked a topic for
discussion. Unless you object of course ;-).

Do you think that truly excellent photographs require no title? Do you
think that sometimes giving a "No Title" will actually be good for the
photograph and the viewer?

What do you say?

Thanks.

Boris
