If you're using f8 at the maximum sync speed of your camera (1/100 or
thereabouts), the effect of the ambient lighting will be pretty minimal,
leading to shots where maybe only the first 10 feet or so are properly
illuminated.  Slowing down the shutter speed to something slower (1/60 or
even 1/30) will allow for more ambient light to reach the film and provide
a better balanced exposure.  Of course, it's so obvoius in retrospect,
right?  :)
