I don't think it's quite as bad as that. When I started my jogging regime I started with very short times (I did it by time, not distance), gradually building up to 30 minutes, which is about what I do now (although I did build up to 1 hour of continuous jogging, but it was taking too much toll on my joints so I cut right back). The programme I followed said this: "If you miss a day or two or even three of running, it doesn't matter; just resume with the day you missed. If you miss 4-20 days, go back the same number of days you missed and resume there. If you miss 21-60 days, go back to Day 13. If you miss more than 60 days, begin all over again.
