The German law is that the dealer is responsible for six months - either he may repair, fix or reduce the price. You don't have to bother with the manufacturer. The term for this dealer's warranty (or responsibility) is called 'Gewaehrleistung', while an extra warranty (Garantie) may be given by the manufacturer. For this second one the manufacturer may specify certain limitations, while the general dealer's warranty can't be neglected. This time period of 6 months will be extended to two years by 2002.
