Even the moon is slimmer in California. :-)

As for the photo, - I am not sure if it works for me or not.
I think, the first impression/thought that I had was the ~1:2 ratio
of the image dimensions. Time-to-time I have problems with the image 
proportions deviating from one of the standard ratios (2:3, 3:4).

A while ago, somebody posted a link to a technique that allows to
shrink(compress) photos only in some parts of them.
Probably this image would benefit from that - if the portion between
the RHS of the lake and the moon is compressed.
