Yes, the A2X-S works fine with the 400/5.6. And some lenses shorter than 400, like the 300/2.8, work better with the A2X-L. Boz isn't quite right about that. Somewhere there's a list of which lenses should be used with which converter, maybe on the Pentax USA web site. In any case, all the 400/5.6 lenses are meant to be used with the A2X-S.
