I used to keep track of things by camera, but gave it up. It's too  
confusing and there really isn't much point to it.

Several years now I have used the directory structure:

YYYY /
   in_progress /
     YYYYMMDD - tag
   completed_work /
     YYNNN - tag - YYYYMMDD

- Each session's work is downloaded by day and 'tag' into folders in  
the "in_progress" folder.
- Completed work is exported to project folders in the  
"completed_work" folder, which are assigned a yearly ordinal sequence  
number and also the date that I started the project.

Lightroom's metadata browser now keeps track of which camera is being  
used.
