OK, from the back of the camera...
Pin pattern is

p    v
   v
v    v

My error, the pin is in the front left seen from behind.
Obviously, the cowling on the K10D front precludes access to that part
of the shoe.

The good news is that the hole is oversized.  The pin OD is probably
75% of the hole OD.
So there is some wiggle room for it.

When mounted, my FIX lever moves to the right - about 3:30 on the
clock face when looking down from the top.  When unlocked, the lever
moves over to about 7:30.  The locking ring rides up and closes the
gap with the flash body above, and opens a gap with the shoe below.
