See Bill's picture.
Look at the camera and flash from the FRONT.
There is an obvious 1.5 mm black pin that rides on the lock collar
(left of center).
This pin is entirely different from the one on the bottom of the flash
(but connected).
It's on the outside of the flash.

With my flash mounted on the camera, I can push that pin up...easily.
I used a toothpick.  A small knife or flat bladed screwdriver would work too.

I think this is Pentax's solution to provide a fail safe.
You can manually retract the pin from outside/above the shoe.

Keep working it back and forth Paul.
The shoe's fit is tight, but you don't have the inside pin engaged if
the outside one is up.
