There's a small bump on the top edge of the fixing
collar that comes in contact with this "release" pin.
When you move the collar all the way to the released
position it litterally pushes this pin all the way up,
which moves in concert with the locking pin below
releasing it.

Take another look. Remember you're looking at the
front of the flash, not the back.
