It's effect on climate and atmosphere (two pretty much inter-related terms) is well known. I failed to consider that aspect of man's affecting the warming taking place. I just read a long article in the March 2008 Discover magazine, and it's a major player in climate, from production of carbon dioxide. That article says the U.S. produces about 17% of the worldwide coal emissions, China much more...
