It wants to give you more options rather than making thing easier up 
front.  Don't get me wrong, I'm about as far from a Microsoft apologist 
as you're going to find, but I believe that's the big difference. 
Personally, it would p*** me the f*** off that it forced me to mount it 
under the name and location that the OS decided was best for me, even if 
it was.  It would still p*** me off. :-)
