The best image is always made when Windows is not running. And backing up 
while Windows is running may cause a lot of extra drive activity (not nice 
when it starts failing).

Here is another one, which will also run from a live CD (the Bart PE live 
CD, which you need to make yourself). It will cause the least stress to
